Housing development in Crewe - Steel Louvered Doors

Earlier this year we were approached by a property management company to help them with an issue they were having at a housing development in Crewe, Cheshire. The Blount Close housing development was completed in 2008 and is home to lots of families and young professionals. The site comprises of houses, flats and apartments where all residents share communal bin store areas. The site was having issues with anti-social behaviour where the bins and doors were constantly getting abused and causing the residents and bin collection company issues.

Doors4secuirty Ltd were contacted to attend site to complete a full site survey and offer a solution which would allow access for residents and waste collection companies only and also offer a good level of security and product longevity.

The site comprised of 8 bins store areas that were all built to different opening sizes, but all were suffering from the same issues; security issues, damage and rooms containing bad smells. The doors we produced were designed to over come the above issues using the below techniques,

  • Security issues – we were able to offer our heavy-duty double steel security doors that come with a multi-point locking system, anti-jemmy studs and a security astragal lip. This would allow the doors to be locked and secured if needed. however, we also needed to consider the fact that multiple residents would need to gain access at different times of the day to empty their bins. We were able to install digital locks onto the door which could be coded to a set code which would allow residents who knew the code only to gain access and empty their bins. With the 2 locking options combined this would only allow residents and trusted people access and would lessen the chance of unwanted people getting inside the bin stores. Another things we added onto the doors were Assa Abloy DC300A-1 power doors closers with back check. What these would do is close the door automatically to allow the digital lock to engage after each person had left the bin stores. What we didn’t want was residents leaving the doors open to allow unwanted people inside.

  • Damage – previously people were abusing the doors and causing damage. As the doors supplied were our heavy-duty double steel doors it meant the steel used to produce them was of a grade where it would be hard to mark or damage the product. We also powder coated the doors to a special RAL 8011 nut brown finish to add an extra layer of protection.

  • Rooms containing bad smells – as these rooms were enclosed and contained bins it would get quite smelly (especially in the summer) so we needed to offer a solution to allow airflow to clear the bad smells. We installed our 457 x 457mm louvered panels into the top and bottom of each door and this provides airflow in and out of the room making sure bad/harmful smells don’t get trapped inside. The louvers are manufactured from steel which means they are difficult to damage and are also powder coated to match the doors. The louvers allow 50% airflow in and out of the room.

Once the doors were produced Doors4secuirty Ltd arranged the installation and the client was extremely pleased with the end outcome and finish.
